Marti is our Super Mom! Check out her story...
The first time I walked into a CrossFit Oregon City, I was a 35 yr old mother of 5 with an 8 month old baby at home. I was incredibly unhappy with my body and seemed lost in work and raising a family. In the past 2 years, CrossFit has brought me life again. I started competing 4 months later and competed RX for the first time this past August. What an awesome feeling; working hard and competing with girls a decade younger than me. My ultra-competitive personality had found a home.
I’m very excited to be part of the Belle & Bell movement. There is so much beauty in strength. I firmly believe that a barbell in a woman’s hands will empower her body, and an empowered body will empower the mind. Once a body and mind are empowered, there is nothing we can’t do. With this mindset, I applied for Steve Austin’s Broken Skull Challenge last June. After rigorous interviews and applications, CMT and 51 Minds casting selected me as a contestant and I filmed last fall. My episode airs on March 1st and while I can’t tell you the outcome, I can tell you that none of this would have happened had I not taken that first barbell in my hands. I am proud to be representing a brand that believes in celebrating strength, beauty, inspiration and perseverance. A brand that reminds women every day that if I can do it, why can’t they?
When I’m not in the gym, I am the mother of Josh (19), Matt (16), James (16), Sierra (12) and Everleigh (2) and the wife to an amazing Deputy Sheriff. I spend my days as an insurance Investigator specializing in Forensic Accident Reconstruction. I volunteer with the American Red Cross as a blood drive coordinator and I am the Critical Events Liaison for Oregon Auxiliary of Wives Behind the Badge. Service to my community is an integral part of who I am.
2015 will be a huge year for me. I see PR’s all over the place! I am working on my form, clean living and bulking up. My long term goal right now it to be competing at a very high level when I hit Masters Division in 2.5 years. CrossFit Games in 2018? Who knows…but the sky is the limit!
